Teen Idol Actor from ‘Gidget'-James Darren died at the age of 88

 James Darren, who transitioned from teen idol fame in movies like “Gidget” to roles in TV shows such as “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “T.J. Hooker,” as well as a successful career as a singer and director, passed away Monday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 88.

His son, Jim Moret, shared that Darren was able to express his love for his family while receiving treatment in the cardiac unit. “He was a good man, very talented, and forever young,” Moret said.

Moret also expressed gratitude that his father had the chance to embrace his iconic role as the surfer Moondoggie in “Gidget” and continue engaging with his fans throughout his life.
