The Eagles secured a 28-13 victory as quarterback Thomas Castellanos led a dominant Boston College offense, overwhelming a struggling Seminoles defense.
This defeat snapped a nine-game home winning streak for Florida State.
"I'm just sick about how the season started. Obviously, tonight I failed in preparing the team to go out and respond," said FSU head coach Mike Norvell. "The things we emphasized and talked about, in all phases, we were not able to execute."
"I obviously didn't put them in a position to showcase what I believe this football team is, and that's extremely disappointing."
FSU quarterback DJ Uiagalelei struggled to find his rhythm, prompting fans at Doak Campbell Stadium to chant "We want Brock" multiple times on Monday night, calling for a change.
Brock Glenn, the Seminoles' backup redshirt freshman quarterback, appeared in five games last season, including starts in the ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl.
Meanwhile, Uiagalelei completed 21 of 42 passes, with one touchdown and an interception. In contrast, Castellanos had an efficient night, going 10-for-16 with two touchdown passes, and adding 85 rushing yards on 19 carries, including a rushing touchdown.
Boston College took control in the second quarter, scoring twice. Castellanos ran for one touchdown and threw for another. The first scoring drive was a methodical 14-play, 71-yard effort that consumed 9:18 off the clock.
