In a thrilling, back-and-forth contest marked by offensive fireworks and costly mistakes, the Philadelphia Eagles claimed victory in the NFL’s first game held in Brazil, defeating the Green Bay Packers 34-29.
Making his debut for the Eagles, running back Saquon Barkley was a standout performer, scoring three touchdowns—two rushing and one receiving—and racking up 132 total yards. Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed also shined, scoring twice, but Green Bay ultimately failed to capitalize on three Philadelphia turnovers.
Adding to Green Bay’s woes, quarterback Jordan Love suffered an apparent leg injury while trying to extend a play in the game's final moments, limping off the field in pain with just three plays remaining.
The game was a mix of explosive moments and sloppy play, with the teams combining for 17 penalties and four turnovers. There was a flurry of action in the second quarter, which saw five scoring drives and a stretch from late in the first quarter to early in the third where neither team punted.
Green Bay struck first, taking advantage of two early Eagles turnovers—an interception and a fumbled snap by Jalen Hurts—resulting in a pair of field goals. However, the Packers’ inability to convert turnovers into touchdowns proved costly. After a fourth-quarter interception by Hurts, Green Bay could only add another field goal, finishing with just nine points off three Philadelphia turnovers, along with a missed field goal and a failed two-point conversion.
After a slow start, the Eagles’ offense found its rhythm, scoring on four consecutive drives beginning in the second quarter. Barkley’s first Eagles touchdown came on a reception, followed by two more rushing scores. Hurts also connected with A.J. Brown for a 67-yard touchdown in the third quarter, marking the second-longest scoring pass of Hurts' career.
Trailing 31-26 in the fourth quarter, the Packers found themselves deep in Eagles territory after another Hurts interception. But on 4th-and-5 from the eight-yard line, they opted for a field goal instead of going for a touchdown. Philadelphia then drained most of the clock on their next possession, adding a field goal of their own to secure the win.
On Green Bay's final drive, Love's legs were caught under multiple defenders as he tried to extend a play, forcing him to limp off the field with assistance. He did not return for the final snaps.
Next up, the Packers face the Indianapolis Colts on September 15, while the Eagles will take on the Atlanta Falcons on "Monday Night Football" on September 16.
